Juice fasting - recipes & tips

Is your everyday life packed with appointments and obligations, and are you longing for a break? Many of us are looking for ways to give body and mind a reset. One practice that has become more and more popular in recent years is juice fasting. This centuries-old ritual, which has its roots in various cultures and traditions, is seen by many as an effective way to boost wellbeing on a mental and physical level.

What is juice fasting?

In short: juice fasting is a form of fasting where you drink juices.

For a set period of fasting, for example 3, 5 or 7 days, you take a break from your usual food. During the juice cleanse you have only juices made from fruit and vegetables, water, unsweetened herbal teas and broth. The juices should be of particularly high quality and made from cold-pressed, never heated fruit and vegetables, plus herbs and spices.

That way, the juices supply you with important nutrients while you fast. Juice fasting is not a form of diet, but it can bring a number of mental and physical effects. What matters here is the quality of the juices and how many of them you drink. We take a closer look at that in this blog article!

How worthwhile is juice fasting?

When we ask our customers why they try juice fasting with frank. products, they tell us it is a mental and physical reset. What they mean is that the juices give their digestion a break, and during the juice cleanse they no longer have to think about daily tasks like shopping and cooking. For some people, juice fasting is an effective way to revitalise their body and break free from bad eating habits.

Many of our customers also use the fasting method to lose weight. Because of the large calorie deficit, fasting on its own already leads to weight loss, but the real art of losing weight is long-term success. Nobody gets around a lasting change or adjustment to their diet here. So a juice cleanse can make the path to your dream weight easier!

What does one day of juice fasting do?

Even one day of juice fasting gives you a taste of our delicious, cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juices and also offers a soothing mini break from a hectic day-to-day. This 24 hours of juice enjoyment works like a refreshing cut from your usual eating habits. It is the ideal chance to get to know the variety and quality of our juices while giving your body a little rest.

Who is fasting with juice suitable for?

In theory, any healthy adult can treat themselves to a little break from stressful everyday life with a juice cleanse and benefit from the fasting metabolism, both in the long and short term. For the best effects, we recommend doing the juice cleanse regularly!

Juice fasting is not suitable for everyone and can even be harmful for some people, because you take in only a greatly reduced amount of calories during this time. People with certain health problems such as diabetes, kidney disease, gastrointestinal problems or eating disorders should avoid juice fasting or talk to a doctor first. Pregnant women, children and anyone with a weakened immune system should not fast either. If you are unsure whether a juice cleanse is right for you and your physical condition, it is better to ask your GP or a specialist you trust and get advice.

What the juice fasting process looks like

While many of us have already heard about the benefits of juice fasting, the question often remains: how exactly does this process work? From preparation to the fast itself to aftercare, there is a lot to keep in mind. In this section we take a detailed look at how juice fasting works step by step.

How does juice fasting work?

As soon as you have decided on the right length for your cleanse and received your chilled juices, your fasting experience can begin! For each cleanse day we send you six cold-pressed juices of 330 ml each, made from different fruits and vegetables and tailored to your individual needs.

Preparation: Before you start juice fasting, thorough preparation is important. You will find comprehensive info on this in our cleanse guide, which we email you with your order confirmation and which is also in the parcel with your delivery. What matters here is that, a few days before your cleanse, you gradually switch your food intake to unprocessed foods and cut down on fast food, sweets and alcohol to make the transition easier.

The fast itself: While fasting you drink 6 juices a day and skip solid food. It is important to drink enough water while fasting to keep your body hydrated. Instead of plain water you can of course also reach for unsweetened herbal teas and broth. Do you already know our fasting teas? They are perfect for fasting and taste great on top of that.

Aftercare: After fasting, it is important to slowly get your body used to solid food again. Start with light meals such as soups, salads or steamed vegetables with a little rice to avoid stomach and gut problems. Meals like these supply you with vitamins and minerals and boost your wellbeing after the cleanse. You will find lots of information on this in the cleanse guide too.

Which juices are suitable for juice fasting?

Juices that are as fresh, cold-pressed and unheated as possible, made from nutrient-rich fruit and vegetables, are ideal for a juice cleanse! That is why we chose to preserve our juices with the HPP process. This process destroys potentially harmful microorganisms while minimising the loss of valuable nutrients. In our range you will find a wide choice of cleanses at different intensities, and with the Mix & Match function you can also put together your own individual cleanse from juices of your choice. That way you can simply leave juices out of your cleanse if you do not like certain vegetable juices, for example the ones with celery. If this topic interests you, keep reading with the article: "Which juices are suitable for juice fasting?".

What do I drink besides juice?

Alongside the six juices, you can of course keep drinking water as much as you like. We recommend still water, as carbonation could irritate your empty stomach while fasting. A tea, such as herbal tea, or a cup of broth can also help you bridge the time between juices and stop thinking about solid meals. The warming effect is worth highlighting here too! If plain water is too boring for you, you can also jazz it up with cucumber slices, a little lemon juice or berries.

How many litres of juice should you drink when juice fasting?

With traditional fasting cleanses, or in the context of therapeutic fasting, it is recommended to take in between 3 and 4 litres of fluid. If you drink all 6 vegetable juices and fruit juices a day, you already take in almost 2 litres of fluid. We recommend that you also drink 1 to 1.5 litres of water, herbal tea and broth.

What prejudices about the downsides of juice fasting are there?

With the popularity of juice fasting, unfortunately, prejudices about various downsides of the method have also grown. As juice fasting has not been researched much yet, these prejudices can be neither scientifically proven nor disproven.

Will I miss out on nutrients when juice fasting?

If you fast for 3, 5 or 7 days with our cleanses, your body falls back on its reserves. That is exactly the point of the cleanse! After carbohydrates and a small share of protein are used for energy in the initial phase, your body uses the far more efficient fat stores. Did you know that your body can store fat-soluble vitamins? Vitamins E, A, D and K are stored in your body and released when they are needed. If you take certain nutrients as supplements in your daily life, you are welcome to keep doing so during your cleanse. To be on the safe side, you can also take our Daily Complete nutrient complex. We recommend it for your everyday life outside the cleanse too! It contains numerous vitamins, minerals and secondary plant compounds from sources that are as natural as possible.

Instead of a multi-day cleanse, you can also fast regularly with the intermittent fasting method. For this we recommend the article: "Vegetable juices during intermittent fasting".

Will I get cravings when juice fasting, and what can I do about them?

Cravings while fasting can be a challenge, but there are various strategies to counter them. By following the tips below (by the way, they are also covered in detail in the guide!) and watching your body mindfully, you can successfully handle cravings while fasting. Here are some tips to avoid cravings while fasting:

Hydration during the juice cleanse is important

1. Drink enough fluids:

Alongside the juices, drink enough water while fasting to fill your stomach and reduce any feeling of hunger. As well as water, unsweetened herbal teas or clear broths can help you too.

2. Plan regular juice portions:

Plan regular juice portions spread across the day to keep your blood sugar level steady, prevent cravings and supply your body with nutrients. If you do a frank. juice cleanse, you drink a total of 6 juices of 330 ml each in one day. We recommend drinking one juice roughly every 2 hours.

3. Vary your juices:

Experiment with different juices and flavour combinations to create variety and reduce cravings for particular foods. Green juices with lots of vegetables taste a little more bitter and so offer the perfect contrast to sweeter fruit juices. With our Mix & Match function you can build your own cleanse, by the way!

4. Find a distraction:

Distract yourself when cravings hit by keeping busy with other activities instead of creeping around the kitchen. Call a friend or distract yourself with movement: follow a yoga or relaxation exercise in our frank. app or go for a walk to get past the craving.

5. Practise mindfulness:

Be mindful of your hunger and fullness signals and learn to recognise and interpret them. Sometimes the feeling of hunger can also reflect thirst or an emotional craving. Are you really hungry, or do you just fancy your favourite sweet treat?
