Kitchen detox - clear out your kitchen

The best way to prepare for fasting is to give your kitchen a little detox too. It's about clearing out all the foods that aren't good for you, to make more room for healthy ones. After your kitchen detox, nothing stands in the way of snacking with a clear conscience.

Detox preparation

Before you stock up on new foods, take a look at what's already in your kitchen. Are there products that expired a while ago? Are there bad buys you don't like the taste of? Things like that can go straight in the bin.

Next, you should think about what you want to go without in future. For example, it would make sense to sort out animal products if you want to switch completely to a vegan diet after your juice cleanse. Make the start of your diet change after the juice cleanse as easy as possible by sorting out the products that no longer suit you and your new way of eating.

You'll surely also find a few hidden foods that probably everyone has in their kitchen, but which do you more harm than good. These include, first of all, all industrial and classic sweets, such as chocolate, crisps or gummy bears. You can throw these out and replace them with healthier alternatives. How about dried fruit, nuts or a creamy nice cream instead? Always worth a little indulgence too.

Other products you're better off without in your kitchen are sugar-heavy sauces such as ketchup, mayo and the like. A better and at least equally tasty alternative is homemade sauces. Grab a natural yoghurt and refine it with leek and onion, et voilà. You could also think of a light yoghurt version with garlic and cucumber. That's how you easily conjure up a tasty, light tzatziki sauce. As you can see, the possibilities are endless and there are no limits to your creativity.

Speaking of yoghurt: here too you can clear out your fridge and say goodbye for good to all ready-made fruit yoghurts. Natural yoghurt, Greek yoghurt or quark with fresh (puréed) fruit is a better choice here.

Just make sure that ready-made products don't find their way back into your kitchen so quickly. To also put a stop to the food waste that results, take the foods that no longer suit you to a food bank near you. That way, nothing should stand in the way of your kitchen detox.

Benefits of a kitchen detox

Once you've given your kitchen a detox and now only have foods that do you good, you can also snack in moderation during the day without a guilty conscience. There's nothing wrong with an apple or a natural yoghurt in between. You cook and eat healthier automatically, without noticing that you're going without certain products. After a few weeks it will feel perfectly normal, and you'll have managed to give yourself a whole new outlook on life with a juice cleanse and the kitchen detox.

Keeping your kitchen healthier in future

This kitchen detox won't achieve much, though, if you don't change your shopping habits for the long term. So make sure that on your next shop only healthy, unprocessed foods find their way into your basket. With fresh fruit and vegetables, even the well-known snacking is no longer a problem.
